I once again signed Molly up for the 2nd annual Chinese singing competition this year.
This year they did a bit different. First and final rounds were all on the same day to save the judges, parents and volunteers time to do all in one day instead of breaking down into two dates.
I also signed Jake up this year as well. That was really not my intention at first because I didn’t know if he knew two Chinese songs to start with. But he did so I figured why not. Plus this year there were only total of 5 kids signed up for four year old age group and the worse he can do is 5th place, which would still be pretty good.
Molly did very well this year. I think she knew what to expect this year compared to last year, plus one year older and wiser. They sung whatever their school teach them and all I did was making sure they practice once everyday. I didn’t teach them anything. Practice makes it perfect is so true.
During first round Molly was to go 2nd and Jake was 5th. Then of course all 5 kids were all in the final round and Molly got to go 2nd agai and Jake was right after Molly at 3rd.
Molly sang well. I was thinking at least 2nd place. And as for Jake, I was hoping for 3rd.
So the result? Molly won first and Jake won 2nd. Jake totally surprised me. I would have been very happy with Jake for 3rd but he came in 2nd instead.

Honestly, Jake did okay. He didn’t have any gesture movements and he rushed his songs as well. But he was calm and confident and no stage freight at all. Somehow he just captivated the audiences attention. Maybe because he was petite and also one of the 4 boys in the age 3-6 groups among 25 other girls.
Molly did much better than last year. She took her time singing and her body gestures were good and she was loud as well.
As for prizes this year? Much worse than last year and they also charged admission for watching the show. Even the parents of participants had to pay but at least they made this clear ahead of time and it was only $2.00 so I was okay with that.
Mia stayed home with daddy. She didn’t want to sing and I didn’t want to force her but next year I will enter all three of them into group singing at least to get Mia started.
My good friend Kelly came to cheer them up eventhough she does not understand Chinese, what a trooper. Then we went for some Chinese food and of course, boba drinks afterward. You can’t complete a meal without boba drinks.
Needless to say, I am a proud mom 2 times over today.
